BAR EXAM DATES AND FORMAT

2021: February 23 – 24, July 27 – 28

The Florida Bar Exam is a 2-day exam.

Day 1: Three essay questions (AM) and 100 multiple-choice questions (PM).

Day 2: Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam (100 questions in the AM, 100 questions in the PM).

Multistate Performance Test (MPT)

Multistate Performance Test “Closed universe” practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.

Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam

MPRE A scaled score of 80 is required. MPRE scores are accepted only if the MPRE and the general bar exam are taken within 25 months of each other.

Filing Deadlines and Fees

Applicant must file both a law student registration and a bar exam application. Applicant must pay $600 (in addition to the registration fees) to convert the registration into an application for admission, which must be filed by November 15 for the February exam and May 1 for the July exam. Late filing is allowed with additional fees. If the applicant never registered as a law student or registered more than five years prior to applying, the application fee is $1,000.

Attorney applicants pay graduated fees based on number of years admitted to bar. Fees range from $1,600 for those admitted less than one year to $3,000 for those admitted over 15 years

Bar Exam Application

Applicant must pay $600 (in addition to the registration fees) to convert the registration into an application for admission, which must be filed by November 15 for the February exam and May 1 for the July exam. Late filing is allowed with additional fees. If the applicant never registered as a law student or registered more than five years prior to applying, the application fee is $1,000.

Scoring

MBE and Florida essay/multiple-choice scores are each weighted 50% in order to determine if applicant has achieved a passing score. An average scaled score of 136 will be required. If applicant only takes one part of the exam, then a score of 136 or higher must be achieved on that part.

Reciprocity

Acceptance of MBE Score

Applicants can transfer MBE scores attained in other jurisdictions provided the score meets the minimum passing scaled score of 136 and the score was attained within 25 months.

Admission on Motion

Florida does not provide for admission on motion. Examination is required of all applicants.
