BAR EXAM DATES AND FORMAT

2024: February 27-28, July 30-31

The Mississippi Bar Exam is a 2-day exam.

Day 1:
Six essay questions drafted by the state board, one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) question and six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions.

Day 2:
Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam (100 questions in the AM, 100 questions in the PM).

Multistate Performance Test (MPT)

Multistate Performance Test “Closed universe” practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.

Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam

Currently, a scaled score of 75 on the MPRE is required for admission. This score must be achieved within 24 months before or 12 months after passing the bar exam.

Scoring

A passing score on the Mississippi bar exam is 132 on a 200-point scale. The MBE is weighted 40%, the six state essays are weighted 30%, the MEE is weighted 15%, and the MPT accounts for 15% of final score.

Reciprocity

Acceptance of MBE Score

An applicant who has taken the MBE, either in Mississippi or in another jurisdiction, within the immediately preceding 20-month period may elect to utilize the scaled score which he achieved on said previous administration of the MBE in lieu of retaking the MBE during current Mississippi Bar Examination.

Admission on Motion

Eligibility for Admission on Motion in Mississippi is restricted to those who have practiced not less than five (5) years in a jurisdiction(s) that accepts Mississippi attorneys for admission without examination. Additional requirements apply.
